Gear that makes transfers faster

ZeroMDroid works with nothing but your phone and your computer. These few things make the big jobs quicker.

A 10 Gbit/s USB-C cable

Most USB-C cables sold for charging carry only USB 2.0 data: about 40 MB/s in practice. A cable rated for 10 Gbit/s moves big files several times faster, when the phone and the computer both support it.

For example: UGREEN USB-C cable, USB 3.2 Gen 2, 1 m

A portable SSD

For carrying a project, a photo library or a phone backup between computers. It is far faster than a pendrive, and fits in a pocket.

For example: Samsung T7 Portable SSD, 1 TB

A fast microSD card

More room in a phone, a drone or an action camera. The adapter lets the same card go into the SD slot of a computer.

For example: SanDisk Extreme microSDXC, 256 GB, with adapter

An SD and microSD card reader

Copies a whole day of photos straight from the card to the computer, at the card’s own speed, with no phone in the middle.

For example: UGREEN SD and microSD card reader, USB-C

A USB-C hub

For a laptop with one or two ports: a phone cable, a drive and a screen can all be plugged in at the same time.

For example: UGREEN USB-C hub, 7 in 1 (HDMI, USB-A, USB-C, card slots)

Choosing well

  • Look for the data speed, not only “fast charging”. A cable that says 10 Gbit/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB4 or Thunderbolt carries data fast. One that only says watts may be USB 2.0 inside.
  • Both ends matter. A fast cable does not help if the phone’s port is USB 2.0, as many phones’ are. Wi-Fi in ZeroMDroid is often just as quick.
  • A cable wins when there is no shared network, when a file is very big, or when you want the phone to show up as a drive.
  • Keep what matters in two places. A portable SSD is a good second copy of photos and projects, not the only one.
